Tire Balance vs. Tire Alignment
Tire balancing and tire alignment can be easily confused with one another because they both contribute to a smoother ride; however they are actually pretty different. Wheel balancing and tire alignment are essential for the smooth operation of your Land Rover vehicle so it’s important to know which one you need.
If you are suspecting that your tires need to be balanced or realigned we’ve broken the differences between each as well as what signs to look out for, right here at Land Rover Freeport.
Tire Balancing
Tire balancing is the process of correcting uneven weight distribution in the vehicle’s wheels. Tires can become unbalanced due to low tire pressure, worn out tires, driving around with a flat tire, and more. If your tires need balancing you may experience the following:
- Unusual noises when driving which get louder as you accelerate.
- You might feel the vehicle vibrating when driving which can also be a sign of misaligned tires, however if the vehicle continues to go straight and not swerve left or right it’s due to unbalanced tires.
- Some of your tires constantly lose pressure while others remain unaffected.
- A wobbly feeling when driving is another sign of unbalanced tires which can be uncomfortable for the driver.
Tire Alignment
Tire alignment is done to adjust the wheel angles so that they are parallel to each other to prevent the vehicle from swerving to the right or left while driving. The following signs may indicate that your tires are misaligned:
- If your steering wheel is vibrating or off center it’s a sign of tire misalignment because the wheels are not fully parallel to each other.
- The most obvious sign of tire misalignment is if your vehicle swerves to the left or to the right when you are trying to drive straight.
- If you happen to notice uneven tire wear this is an indicator to have the tires realigned.
